SHALER TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Shaler Police are asking for your help in finding out what happened after the Hampton-Shaler football game Friday.

Shaler Township Police Department confirmed to Channel 11 Tuesday it’s investigating an incident involving a spectator and a Hampton Township High School football player.

The incident allegedly happened as the teams were leaving the field.

In a statement, STPD told us they are “sorting through the information and interviewing potential witnesses. No specific information will be released until all the available evidence is reviewed.”

Channel 11 spoke with people in Shaler and Hampton about the incident.

“I guess it’s just the way the country is, and it’s just the way it’s going these days,” Jim Haller said. “There’s too much emphasis put on parents sometimes getting involved with their kids in sports in a way that everybody has to win. Nobody can lose.”

“I just think it was so terrible,” a Hampton woman said. “I don’t want to see any kids hit.”

Police did not confirm the age of the person who allegedly struck the player, only saying it was someone at the game.

Shaler Area School District released a statement saying in part, “The safety and security of our players, spectators and guests during athletic events is a top priority. The incident that occurred after Friday night’s football game is currently under investigation.”

Hampton Township School District also released a statement thanking Shaler police and the school district for its response, adding, “(F)ortunately, no one was injured.”

“People are going crazy because they don’t have God in their life,” another woman in Hampton said. “They really need Jesus. There we go.”

Shaler police are asking anyone with information to send it to them through email at police@shaler.org or through the department’s anonymous tipline form that can be found here.
