Shooting victim found on sidewalk next to his wheelchair

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh police are searching for a killer Monday, after a man was found shot to death on Fifth Avenue in the city’s Uptown neighborhood.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office identified the victim as Jawan Tasker, 28, of Summer Hill.

Police found Tasker on the sidewalk next to his wheelchair shortly before midnight.

“I just don’t understand how somebody would do this,” Shelley Perfetto said. “We call him Sunshine.”

Tasker, who uses a wheelchair, was a fixture in the Uptown neighborhood.

“I just can’t imagine anyone wanting to hurt him. He was just so pleasant,” said Tasker’s friend, Sable Foster.

Two witnesses reported seeing someone running from the area.

Police said they plan to check nearby security cameras to see if they can identify the shooter.
