Spirit Halloween hosts party for patients, families at UPMC Children’s Hospital

PITTSBURGH — Spirit Halloween hosted an annual Halloween party for patients and families at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh through its Spirit of Children program.

The event provided young patients with donated costumes, accessories and seasonal activities.

The Spirit of Children program, organized by Spirit Halloween, brings holiday events to pediatric patients. The celebration at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh gave hospitalized children an opportunity to participate in traditional Halloween festivities.

Patients participating in the hospital event chose from a selection of donated costumes and accessories provided by Spirit Halloween to wear during the celebration.

The event schedule featured interactive entertainment for patients, including games, pumpkin decorating and Halloween bingo.

For family members, the program offered a distraction while children underwent medical care. A parent of a patient spoke about the impact of the event during hospital stays.

“It keeps your mind preoccupied, especially for whatever reason you can’t be bedside with your child, if tehy are in a procedure or something,” the parent said. “This is just a nice way to go and kind of ease the mind. And it’s always a lot of fun too.”
