Squirrel Hill tobacco store worker tied up, knocked unconscious in robbery

SQUIRREL HILL, Pa. — old tobacco store employee in Squirrel Hill was tied up with duct tape and knocked unconscious during a robbery Tuesday morning.

Investigators said the incident happened around 7 a.m. at the Discount Tobacco Store on Murray Avenue.

The victim told police that a man entered the business, grabbed him from behind and hit him in the head with a small handgun. Police said the robber told the victim to "give me the money."

Officers said the robber also told the victim several times that he would kill him.

The victim told police that both cash register drawers were open and he gave the robber an undisclosed amount of money. Police said the suspect also took cartons of cigarettes.

Police said after getting the cash and cigarettes the robber took the victim to another room where he tied him up with duct tape and hit him in the head with a handgun again.

The victim told police that he was knocked unconscious for several minutes. He was taken to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.

The robber is described as a black man, about 45 years old, 5 feet 10 inches tall and was wearing a black shirt, gray pants and a black baseball cap.
