VENANGO COUNTY, Pa. — State police are warning the public of a scheme on Craigslist after at least one Venango County resident was victimized.
According to authorities, the victim had listed an item for sale on Craigslist and was contacted by a potential buyer who wanted to complete the transaction via PayPal.
Upon creating a legitimate PayPal account, the victim began receiving realistic looking emails from a fake PayPal account. The emails led the victim to believe that money would be received once the item was delivered to the buyer.
Police said the victim shipped the item to an address in Michigan, but once the item was delivered the emails stopped and money was never received.
