PENN HILLS, Pa. — An investigation into a suspicious package shut down part of a busy Penn Hills roadway on Sunday.
Penn Hills Police Department and the Allegheny County Police Department’s bomb squad both responded to the 12000 block of Frankstown Road.
In a social media post, Penn Hills No. 7 Volunteer Fire Co. says it helped evacuate businesses and control traffic shortly after noon.
A former Penn Hills government official tells Channel 11 that the investigation was for a suspicious package placed in the foyer of a business near the intersection of Frankstown Road and Orchard Drive.
The official says the business was open when the package was left, and the incident was captured on surveillance cameras.
Penn Hills No. 7 VFC says the bomb squad analyzed the package and cleared it as safe. Businesses and roadways reopened about two hours after the incident began.
Penn Hills police continue to investigate.
