PITTSBURGH — A swat situation ended peacefully Saturday morning in the city’s Brighton Heights neighborhood.
Officers were first called to the scene along Geyer Avenue at around 9:30 a.m. after neighbors claimed a man threatened them with a long gun.
A criminal complaint alleges the incident began as a parking dispute. Three people told police that the man, identified as Wayne Parker, threatened them after they parked in front of his house. All of the victims told police he pointed a shotgun at them and threatened to shoot.
Initially, when officers arrived, court documents say they were able to speak with Parker, who denied threatening anyone with a shotgun and instead claimed someone tried to kick his door in. But, he later ran inside and refused to come out, so SWAT was called in.
“Due to safety precautions for the neighborhood and for the individual himself, our SWAT team was called,” said Stephen Vinansky of the Pittsburgh Police Department.
Negotiators were able to convince Parker to surrender peacefully after about two hours. No shots were fired.
Parker is now facing three counts of terroristic threats and three counts of simple assault. He’s being held at the Allegheny County Jail, unable to post a $10,000 cash bond.
