PITTSBURGH — An email into Target 11 led to the discovery of a recalled item you may have in your medicine cabinet.

A mother alerted us to a voluntary recall by Guardian Drug Company on several antacids and gas relief drops for infants because of a possible microbial contamination. The woman was upset because although the recall happened in March, she said she was not aware of it until her husband saw workers pulling it from the store shelves this past weekend.

Target 11 did some digging and learned that Guardian Drug recalled 71 lots of various brands due to possible contamination of Burkholdia cepacia. B. Cepacia does not usually cause infections in healthy people, but can in those at risk, including children and babies with immature immune systems.  No illnesses have been reported. We reached out to several retailers who carried the recalled product.

CVS told us “the item was voluntarily recalled and removed from CVS/pharmacy shelves at that time. All recalled items are posted on a list we keep near the store entrance.”

Walmart said they immediately notified stores to remove the products, alerted associates on handling any questions and are offering refunds.

Dollar General issued an electronic alert so that if a customer were to buy the recalled product, the register would stop the sale. The company also told workers to remove the recalled product from shelves and offer refunds.
