PITTSBURGH — Despite high temperatures and no air conditioning, class was in session Friday for students at Taylor Allderdice High School.
There are other schools in the city school district that do not have air conditioning, such as Perry High School.

Students said that they avoided the fourth floor on Friday because the higher you go in the building, the hotter it gets.
Around noon, all the windows on every floor were opened and fans were set on high in an attempt to provide relief to the students and teachers.
“We put in ventilating fans, ceiling fans in classrooms. This week, because it’s particularly warm, we have been delivering water because keeping kids hydrated and adults hydrated is very important when it’s this hot,” said Superintendent Linda Lane.
Some schools in the Pittsburgh area, such as Sto-Rox, sent students home because the hallways and classrooms had no air conditioning, but Lane said temperatures will have to climb above 90 before she cancels school in the district.
“It’s going to be uncomfortable until the weather changes,” said Lane.
Parents who talked to Channel 11 said they support the district’s decision to hold classes.
Lane said the district is working to get air conditioning in all city schools.
