PITTSBURGH — A teenager who found himself in the middle of a fight with men who are more than twice his age says he was just doing what he thought was right.

The 16-year-old was walking on Liberty Avenue in Bloomfield last week when he told Channel 11's Jennifer Tomazic he heard men yelling racial slurs and beating a man.

“It wouldn't sit right in my heart to let something that I know isn't right happen,” the boy said. Channel 11 News is not revealing his identity.

“I went to help the older guy who was getting beat up and then I got hit from the guy that was behind me, and he knocked me unconscious.”

As the victim ran away, the teen says the men kept punching and kicking him. He eventually managed to run to safety.

The boy was rushed to the hospital as police arrested two men at a nearby gas station. Police identified the suspects as 48-year-old John Nash, Jr. and 42-year-old Anthony Hartman. They are facing ethnic intimidation and aggravated assault charges.

Nash and Hartman remain jailed on $100,000 bond.

As for the teen, he suffered a concussion and will undergo physical therapy for neck and back injuries.

“I would do it again if I saw it,” he said.
