PITTSBURGH — A local mother says she is the latest victim of a social media challenge.
“It was just like a big boom, and I saw my door fly open. I just hopped up out of my sleep... I didn’t know what to do,” Jaeleigh Tyson told Channel 11.
Tyson and her six-year-old son were taking a nap on her couch Sunday afternoon at their home in Knoxville.
They were jolted awake when they heard a loud banging noise, which Tyson at first thought was a gunshot.
“My son was scared. He was running around screaming,” she said.
That loud bang was actually the sound of a teenager kicking in her front door — also known as the viral “door kick challenge.”
It’s when kids kick in someone’s front door, then run away.
“My door is like barely hanging on. I can’t even lock my door. The whole wall is broken,” she said
On her surveillance video, you can see several kids hanging around outside of her home, and one of them is even standing on top of a car.
Then you hear the bang.
“What if I would have shot one of them? I would have felt bad because I’m a mother. I don’t want to harm nobody’s kids,” she said.
She told us officers charged the teens with minor charges, which she thinks is an injustice.
“If they don’t learn now, they’re not going to learn when they get older. And then they’re going to become criminals and they’re going to think this is OK.
Pittsburgh police have not gotten back to us on specifics of the charges that the teens are facing.
