Testimony continues Monday in Greensburg torture death trial penalty phase

WESTMORELAND COUNTY, Pa. — Testimony will continue Monday in the penalty phase for the so-called ringleader of the “Greensburg Six.”

Ricky Smyrnes was convicted of being one of the people involved in torturing a woman for more than two days and then killing her in Greensburg in February 2010.

The woman, Jennifer Daugherty, was stabbed to death inside a Greensburg apartment. Her body was found in the parking lot of Greensburg Salem Middle School.

Daugherty’s family testified last week that Smyrnes took advantage of Daugherty’s trusting nature.

Smyrnes could face the death penalty for his first-degree murder conviction in Daugherty’s death.
