CANONSBURG, Pa. — A PTA treasurer is charged with stealing thousands of dollars from the Canonsburg school organization.

Brian Simon, 35, is accused of taking more than $15,000 from a PTA bank account.

“To me, it’s pretty sad. You're stealing from children essentially. I don’t know, it just affects everybody,” said Jennifer Juliani.

The criminal complaint says that, when asked about the missing money, Simon told PTA President Christina Hollandsworth that he would meet her with the books, but never showed up.

During a phone conversation, he allegedly told Hollandsworth that he felt like killing himself, and that he didn’t have malicious intent.

Channel 11’s Alan Jennings reported that Simon told Hollandsworth he took the money because medical bills were piling up for a family member.

Hollandsworth told Jennings that she wants to put this behind her.

“Everyone’s come together on this to be very supportive, and we're going to do as we always do and operate in the best interest of the children and continue to enhance their educational experiences,” said Hollandsworth.

Simon was arraigned Tuesday.
