Three buildings damaged in Homestead fire

HOMESTEAD, Pa. — Flames lit up the early morning sky in Homestead, when fire damaged three businesses on East 8th Avenue.

Firefighters were called to a vacant former clothing store shortly after 2:30 a.m. The fire spread to a Laundromat next door.

Another business on the other side of the former clothing store sustained smoke damage.

No one was hurt, but the impact was being felt by Homestead's mayor.

"It's hard for the businesses on the avenue to keep wanting to get moving and be successful..., it's not a good image," said Berry Esper.

A fire in Janurary destroyed an entire block.

The cause of Thursday's fire has not been determined.

Barrett Elementary school was placed on a two-hour delay because of the fire.
