Trial opens in slaying of 2 in Westmoreland County home

WESTMORELAND COUNTY, Pa. — A defense attorney says a western Pennsylvania man was at the scene before a man and woman were killed in their rural western Pennsylvania home two years ago, but that doesn't prove he committed the crime.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review says defense attorney Michael DeMatt told jurors in Westmoreland County on Tuesday that other people besides 30-year-old Eric Hall of Ligonier were present on the August 2011 night of the slayings in Washington Township.

Hall is charged in the deaths of 24-year-old Anthony Henderson and 24-year-old Noelle Richards. Prosecutors allege that he beat and shot Henderson and then shot Richards in the basement of their home during a robbery.

Prosecutors say the victims' blood was found in Hall's car and Henderson's wallet was found near the defendant's residence.
