LAWRENCE COUNTY, Pa. — The United Way of Lawrence County is launching its 21st Annual “Share the Warmth” Blanket Drive in November.
Sponsored by Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania and the State Employee International Union (SEIU), the initiative collects blankets for local residents needing winter assistance.
The blanket collection drive will take place throughout November. Student volunteers from Neshannock and Shenango high schools will sort the collected donations in December prior to distribution to local assistance agencies.
The community drive comes as families across the region face increased utility expenses alongside limited access to funding through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).
Drop-off sites for blanket donations are located throughout the county. Participating locations include:
- Busy Beaver stores in Shenango Township and Ellwood City
- Connerly’s Cleaners
- Lawrence County Government Center
- Lawrence County YMCA and Y-Zone
- New Castle Public Library
- Office of Pennsylvania State Rep. Marla Brown
- United Way of Lawrence County
- Ellwood Chamber of Commerce
- New Wilmington Municipal Building
- Berkshire Hathaway Real Estate
Students from Neshannock High School and Shenango High School are participating in the initiative.
In December, students at Shenango High School will sort the donated blankets before they are delivered to local service agencies.
The American Red Cross, ARISE, Children’s Advocacy, Catholic Charities, Holy Redeemer Church, Cray Youth and Family Services, the Salvation Army, People in Need and the City Rescue Mission will received the donations.
Businesses and community organizations interested in participating can contact the United Way of Lawrence County at 724-658-8528 or visit www.uwlawcty.org. Residents with general health and human services inquiries can call 211 or visit www.pa211sw.org.
