PITTSBURGH — The University of Pittsburgh announced it is launching a new health sciences startup incubator.
Pitt’s Board of Trustees approved the creation of the new incubator on Sept. 25, which will provide support for young life sciences startups. According to a university statement, the incubator will be located in Oakland at 3343 Forbes Ave.
“For early-stage life sciences startups, the cost of specialized equipment and access to quality lab space can be the difference between a promising idea moving forward and never getting off the ground,” said Pitt’s Senior Vice Chancellor for Research Rob Rutenbar. “This new incubator will remove that barrier for some companies and give them more of a reason to build their future here in Pittsburgh.”
Pitt trustees approved the incubator on the same day the university announced a $3 billion fundraising campaign to support university initiatives further.
