PITTSBURGH — Researchers at the University of Pittsburgh say four things can help older women keep weight off.
A new study of nearly 500 postmenopausal women showed that decreasing consumption of desserts and sugary drinks predicted short-term and long-term weight loss.
The study also found that decreasing consumption of meats and cheeses, and increasing consumption of fruits and vegetables predicted long-term weight loss.
Researchers found that eating out and eating fried food didn't have an effect on long-term weight change.
"It's really interesting because a lot of people may try to increase fruits and vegetables and might not see a result right away," said Dr. Bethany Barone Gibbs. "But if they keep that up they may be able to see long term weight changes."
