PITTSBURGH — Penn State football is on the road to recovery. The team is poised to play in a bowl game, and the scholarships are returning. But in the aftermath of the Jerry Sandusky scandal, there's still the matter of Joe Paterno's legacy.
Shortly after the scandal broke and Paterno died, emotions boiled over and the Paterno statue was removed.
There are still burning questions on the statue's whereabouts. Is the university keeping it on campus? Is it in storage away from state college?
According to one rumor, Steelers Super Bowl Champion Franco Harris has it in his possession.
Channel 11's Alby Oxenreiter asked Harris if he has heard about the rumor.
"I can't tell you," said Harris.
"You don't know where the statue is or you can't confirm or deny that it's in your possession?" asked Oxenreiter.
"I can't tell you where it is," said Harris.
The Nittany Lion alum wants it back on campus. He feels the return of the statue would be a major step in honoring the Paterno legacy that was tarnished.
"We all know now that Joe never covered up anything. Joe never put football ahead of education. The culture of Penn State has always been one of integrity. That never changed," said Harris.
"Will you fight, will the university fight or will the boosters fight to get Coach Paterno's wins restored?" asked Oxenreiter.
"We'll get the wins. The wins have to be restored. They should have never been taken away in the first place," said Harris.
