NORTH VERSAILLES, Pa. — Police are looking for whoever vandalized more than a dozen headstones at a North Versailles cemetery earlier this month, causing thousands of dollars in damage.

Fr. Gregory Madeya of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Church told Channel 11's Gordon Loesch that a total of 15 headstones were vandalized around July 6.

"Is it fun to do this? What's the motive behind it? What kind of family do you come from?" Madeya said.

According to police, the vandals also ripped out veterans' flags and their holders, and chipped pictures that were in some of the headstones.

"The parishioners were hurt and upset. They work hard and struggle to pay the bills and keep this thing going. This is just another blow to us," Madeya said.

Madeya said the church will take collections for the repairs during this weekend's Masses. Church members are also trying to raise money for a reward for anyone providing information that leads to catching the vandals.

"We hope this, it will set some things straight, maybe open some eyes and teach a few people some lessons," Madeya said. "We're here to be forgiving, but we can't just let it go either."

Investigators said they believe teenagers are responsible, but they have no suspects.
