Video shows driver crashes into work-zone equipment, nearly hit flagger on Campbell’s Run Road

COLLIER TWP, Pa. — A flagger says a driver crashed into construction safety equipment and came within inches of hitting her in a work zone along Campbell’s Run Road Wednesday night.

Video recorded by flagger Laura Boscia appears to show a vehicle rounding a corner and striking the equipment.

“It was very scary,” Boscia said. “This man just came flying at me. I blew my whistle and I was like, I don’t know what made me think to move to the side.”

Boscia said the driver told her he was distracted.

She has worked at the site for about three weeks and said she has seen drivers speed through the construction zone.

“People don’t follow this speed limit,” she said. “They don’t care about construction zones.”

Boscia said another driver nearly hit workers about 10 minutes before the crash.

After that close call, she set up a camera to record traffic.

She said she did not expect to capture the crash.

“My life could’ve changed, my kid’s life could’ve been changed in an instant,” Boscia said.

She said flaggers work to protect construction workers, drivers and pedestrians.

She hopes the video reminds drivers that they also have a role in keeping everyone safe.

“My message to anyone driving through a work zone is slow down, pay attention,” Boscia said. “One distraction can change someone’s life forever.”

It was not immediately clear whether the driver could face charges.
