The flooding occurred in several buildings along Third Avenue at Wood Street, causing at least 5 feet of water to fill basements, officials said.
A spokesperson for the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority said crews assisted with the break, shutting off a 12-inch water main on Third Avenue so that repairs could be made to the private line.
The St. Patrick's Day Parade was not affected by the break.
