Ligonier Valley Police have filed criminal charges against a Rector woman accused of stealing jewelry from residents living at Bethlen Home during her employment at the facility.
Kylie Ezykowsky, 30, faces charges of theft and receiving stolen property.
An investigation began in October after police responded to the facility for a report about a theft from a resident’s room.
The resident informed police that a gold ring she typically kept in a specific drawer when not wearing it had disappeared. The victim contacted police again when she realized more of her belongings were missing, including a bracelet featuring gold charms.
Ligonier Valley Police then began monitoring precious metals websites to locate stolen jewelry.
Authorities discovered two separate transactions at a Greensburg pawn shop, one in May and another in October. The transactions involved gold charms pawned for over $1,200 and a gold ring matching the description of the victim’s stolen ring, pawned for $490.
Investigators say the victim verified the items found at the shop were the ones taken from her room.
Investigators identified Ezykowsky as the individual who pawned the jewelry while employed at Bethlen Home. As the investigation progressed, police concluded she also stole jewelry from a second resident at the facility. According to officers, Ezykowsky removed a ring from the hand of a resident receiving care for a declining cognitive state.
Ezykowsky has been suspended pending termination.
