Man rescued after falling down 25 feet into mine shaft in Hempfield Township

HEMPFIELD TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A man was rescued after falling down 25 feet into a mine shaft in Hempfield Township.

According to the Crabtree Fire Department, crews responded in the late afternoon to the village of Luxor.

Crews set ground pads, began air monitoring, set up a confined space blower to force fresh air down in the hole and set up an A-frame with a rope hauling system to lower two rescuers down to get the man out, according to the Crabtree Fire Department.

The Crabtree Fire Department said from the time of dispatch to when he got out, the man was in the mine shaft for 39 minutes.
