Wilkinsburg police department receives $13K grant to upgrade street cameras, license plate readers

WILKINSBURG, Pa. — The Borough of Wilkinsburg Police Department was awarded $13,100 in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Justice to upgrade its street camera and license plate reader systems.

Congressman Chris Deluzio announced the award.

The grant was awarded through the Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Assistance Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program for FY 2025.

The Bureau of Justice Assistance provides funding opportunities to state, local and tribal jurisdictions with the goal of reducing and preventing crime and reforming the U.S. criminal justice system.

“Our cops keep our communities safe and we need to make sure they have the necessary resources to do their important work,” Deluzio said. “I’m happy to announce more than $13,000 in federal funding for the Wilkinsburg Police Department today.”

Wilkinsburg Police Chief Christopher Duncan praised the grant award for the department’s technology improvements.

“We are incredibly thrilled to have been selected as a recipient of this grant,” Duncan said. “On behalf of the Wilkinsburg Police Department, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to Congressman Deluzio.”
