WILKINSBURG, Pa. — Teachers in the Wilkinsburg School District spoke out at Tuesday night’s school board meeting about a plan that could send their middle and high school students to Pittsburgh Public Schools.
The school boards from both districts are considering a partnership plan that, if approved, could be implemented as early as next fall.

“I just want to find out if this is something that's going to benefit our kids or if this is something that may put our kids in a more precarious situation,” said Michael Evans, with the Wilkinsburg Education Association. “I believe that the goals they are trying to accomplish can be accomplished here in Wilkinsburg, using the staff that we have, the resources that we have."
Wilkinsburg school leaders said they don’t feel they are able to offer the same type of educational opportunities to their students that other students have. Enrollment in the district had been declining for years because of a shrinking population and increased enrollment in charter schools, according to administrators.
Wilkinsburg School Board President Ed Donavan said at this point, the proposal is merely an idea.
“What we’re investigating is what is the absolute best thing we could do for our kids,” he said.
