PITTSBURGH — Another round of winter weather caused slick conditions during the morning commute Wednesday.
Channel 11's Brittny McGraw reported slick conditions near Interstate 79 in Wexford.
Crews began pre-treating roadways Tuesday afternoon, PennDOT said.
On Gringo Clinton Road in Beaver County, the roadway was covered with snow. Similar scenes were reported on Route 151 and along Interstate 376 in Hopewell.
Pennsylvania Department of Transportation officials said their winter maintenance crews in Allegheny, Beaver and Lawrence counties were prepared for a mixed-precipitation winter event.
Officials said adequate salt and material supplies are on hand and equipment has been checked to ensure mechanical readiness.
No major accidents were reported.
Severe Weather Team 11 Chief Meteorologist Stephen Cropper said mix precipitation (snow, freezing rain and sleet) started Tuesday between 7 p.m. and midnight. Cropper said the system moved south to north (starting in Morgantown, W.Va. first then moving into Pittsburgh).
Ground temperatures remained relatively warm, but air temperatures were cold so slick spots on area roadways were created.
