MURRYSVILLE, Pa. — A Western Pennsylvania woman has been charged with cashing more than $43,000 worth of stolen checks.
The victim called Murrysville Police in mid-August to report her checkbook stolen, and told detectives she believed a friend who recently helped her move cashed several of the checks.
Authorities said they received copies of the cashed checks, all made out to Patricia Lucas or James Lucas, with a similar signature.
From July 8 through Aug.10, police said 46 different checks were cashed for a total of $43,780.
The victim told police that Patricia Lucas, 68, was an acquaintance, and that she recently helped her move after the victim sold her house.
After the victim discovered the money missing, she said she messaged Patricia Lucas, who claimed she would pay her back and hoped to return it before she even noticed.
Patricia Lucas is charged with theft by unlawful taking.
