McCANDLESS, Pa. — A 40-year-old McCandless woman accused of drowning her two sons will undergo evaluation at a state hospital, an Allegheny County judge decided on Monday.

Judge Jeffrey Manning ruled during a competency hearing Monday that Laurel Michelle Schlemmer will be sent to Torrance State Hospital in Derry for up to 90 days.

Manning granted a request for a gag order by attorney Michael Machen, who is representing Schlemmer, to prohibit attorneys from talking about the case.

Schlemmer has been in the Allegheny County Jail on charges of homicide, attempted homicide, aggravated assault and other counts.

Schlemmer called police on Tuesday to report that her children appeared to have drowned in the bathtub. Luke, 3, died that day and his brother Daniel, 6, had been hospitalized on life support and died on Saturday.
