UPPER ST. CLAIR, Pa. — A woman has been charged with homicide in the shooting death of her cousin early Saturday morning outside a home in Upper St. Clair.
Stephanie Munizza, 28, was taken into custody and charged with one count of homicide in the shooting death of 27-year-old Joshua Poremski, of Upper St. Clair, authorities said.
Poremski was pronounced dead after police were called to a home on Myrna Drive about 4 a.m., according to police. He was found in the driveway with a single gunshot wound to the head and neck.
According to a criminal complaint, a group of family members had been sitting around a fire pit late Friday night into Saturday morning. An unidentified witness told police that Munizza and Poremski had been drinking when they got into a conversation about carrying a concealed firearm.
Munizza, who told police that she was in town visiting family, said she asked Poremski if he had a gun because she was interested in obtaining a concealed carry permit, the complaint stated. She said Poremski then pulled his gun out of its holster, said it was not loaded and offered it to her if she wanted to see it, at which point Munizza declined.
At a later point in time, Poremski allegedly questioned if Munizza could shoot someone if they tried to harm her or her family. That's when Munizza said she was handed the gun, which Poremski had earlier said was not loaded, and it went off while in her possession, the complaint stated.
Authorities recovered the gun and cartridge at the scene.
Munizza told police that she didn't mean to shoot Poremski.
A preliminary hearing for Munizza is scheduled for Nov. 14. She is being held at the Allegheny County Jail without bond.
