PITTSBURGH — Authorities are warning elderly residents in the North Side after a woman was knocked to the ground during a robbery earlier this week.

The woman, who’s in her 60s, was walking toward the Giant Eagle on Pressley Street around 7 a.m. Tuesday when police said she was tackled.

The woman, who suffered broken bones in her arm and bruises to several parts of her body, told investigators the man took off with her purse.

The crime happened in a neighborhood where there are a lot of elderly residents, and police want them all to be made aware of the incident.

According to police, surveillance cameras captured some of the assault, and they’re hoping it will help identify the attacker.

“Everything that’s going on today is very sad,” one neighbor said.

Rev. Thompson, who runs the community council nearby, said it’s not the first time the older residents have been targeted.

“I tell them all the time to watch what time you go out and if you can, take somebody with you,” Thompson said.
