HEIDELBERG, Pa. — Authorities said a woman was killed in a house fire Thursday night in Heidelberg.

The blaze was reported at a home on Garfield Avenue, next to Ron Mixter’s house.

Mixter told Channel 11 News he used a ladder to help Darren Walls off the roof to safety.

Mixter said he tried to go back into the home for Walls’ mother, but the flames were too hot and he was unable to.

“I finally got on the roof and pulled him off. Slowly. He was afraid to come down and I said, ‘I got you, come on down,’” Mixter said.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
