SEWICKLEY, Pa. — Pennsylvania Department of Transportation crews announced Friday that road work will begin on Fern Hollow Road in Sewickley on Monday.

The pavement is cracked and sliding, and drivers said it’s nearly impossible to drive on the road.

PennDOT officials said weather permitting, the repairs will begin Monday, but it’s not going to be an easy fix.

PennDOT officials said Mother Nature is to blame for the conditions. They put in a retaining wall because of slide before, but the slide continued and now the wall needs extended.

“I’d like for them to fix it once and for all because this has happened before,” driver Noah Rahm said.

Traffic between Duff City Road and Camp Meeting Road will be affected. Fern Hollow Road will be closed to thru traffic 24 hours a day.

The work is scheduled to go through late December, officials said.

About 1,000 drivers who use the road daily will have to take about a 10 minute detour.
