WPXI launching ‘Band Together’ initiative for back to school

Channel 11 News to spotlight marching bands in a dozen local school districts

PITTSBURGH — WPXI Channel 11 will celebrate the music, pride and tradition of Western Pennsylvania’s marching bands with a new initiative, “WPXI’s Band Together,” as part of our Back To School 2026 coverage.

Each weekday during the weeks of Aug. 17 and Aug. 24, a local high school marching band will play us out of the 6 a.m. newscast to help brighten everyone’s morning. The full performance of each marching band will then live on the WPXI News App and WPXI.com.

Channel 11 News will feature marching bands from across the region as communities band together to navigate the return to school and the return to routine for the Fall. Marching bands currently participating include Allderdice, Bethel Park, Butler, Canon-McMillan, Moon, North Allegheny, North Hills, Norwin, Pine-Richland, Shaler, West Allegheny and Woodland Hills.
