PITTSBURGH — The North Huntingdon Township Police Department has a new patrolman.
Nine-year-old Connor Vickers was diagnosed with leukemia when he was just 2.
Connor, who wants to be a police officer when he grows up, is in his fourth year of remission.
When North Huntingdon police learned of Connor’s aspirations, they said they knew exactly what they had to do.

“As every officer does, we wanted to make sure it was authentic and that he knew he was officially a part of the family. He was given a copy of his oath of office, which we are going to him to as his parents are,” said patrolman Mark Hamilton.
Connor has already attended emergency response, K9 and motorcycle training classes. His superiors and colleagues said he has passed those classes with flying colors.
Connor's friendship was set up by a local nonprofit, CCChampions, that helps kids with cancer through 6-month-long friendships with inspirational role models throughout Pittsburgh.
