Investigators said they received a hang-up 911 call from a home on Yockey Road on Saturday. When officers went to investigate the call, they discovered several malnourished Great Danes inside the home.
Of the 10 dogs found, three of them were dead. Humane officers said the dogs that survived were barely alive when they rescued them from the home. Police said the house was covered in feces and filth.
"The smell was horrible. We had to keep walking outside continuously just to get some air," said humane officer Penny Dewoerhel. "The conditions of the house are deplorable. Not fit for animals, let alone humans."
Dewoerhel said one of the dogs was tied to a wall with a chain around it's neck.
"She couldn't move. If she did move, right beside her was a hole in the floor where she would have fell through and hung herself," Dewoerhel said.
Officials said charges against the homeowner are pending. The woman's name has not been released.
