RESERVE TOWNSHIP, Pa. — The Allegheny County medical examiner has released the name of a Pittsburgh man who died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound hours after his ex-girlfriend was found fatally shot in her own shower in Reserve Township.
The man police believe shot himself and 25-year-old Alisha Virtue has been identified as 24-year-old Nicholas Starr.
County detectives said Virtue's body was found about 5 p.m. Tuesday when her mother, sister and 2-year-old son returned to the Spring Garden Avenue home.
They heard the shower running and assumed she was getting ready for work, only to find her dead.
“She loved people and loved her baby. Now, she’s not here,” said Angela Rotondo, Virtue’s sister. “It's hard when anyone is taken from your family, but when a life is taken like this, it hits you harder.”
The relatives then found Starr on the bathroom floor.
Starr had a gunshot wound to the head and died early Wednesday at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Virtue’s family told Channel 11’s Dave Bondy that she and Starr had broken up a few months ago.
“Her life was brutally robbed from her and our family for what? A jealous ex-boyfriend?” said Rotondo.
An 'Alisha Virtue Funeral Fund' has been established. Donations can be made at any PNC Bank location.
