WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A man accused of violating a protection from abuse order, holding a gun to his estranged wife’s head and setting her home on fire will stay in jail until he accepts a plea deal or goes to trial.
Daniel Rumon, 53, waived his right to a preliminary hearing Monday because he’s considering a deal.
When asked whether he was considering it, Rumon told Channel 11’s Melanie Gillespie, “I don't know. My wife's been kicking me in the (expletive) for so damn long, I've gotten used to it."
Rumon was arrested earlier this month not far from the Gill Road home that he’s accused of setting on fire.
Police said hours earlier, he showed up at his estranged wife’s house, in violation of a PFA order that was issued in March.
He allegedly zip-tied her hands and feet, and threatened to kill her with a gun stolen from her neighbor’s home. She escaped unharmed.
Police said Rumon set a fire in the basement of the home, then watched outside as it burned to the ground.
Outside court Monday, Gillespie asked Rumon if he tried to kill his wife.
“No, I didn’t try to,” he said. “If I wanted to kill my wife, she would’ve been dead already.”
In July, Rumon was convicted of assault and stalking his wife.
