PITTSBURGH,None — A Penn Hills man will spend life in prison for using a 20-pound weight to bludgeon his girlfriend's two children, and trying to kill the woman the same way.
Keith Scott, 43, of Penn Hills, pleaded guilty to killing Lesha Drake, 18, and her brother, Naim Drake, 14, on Oct. 14, 2008 at the apartment they shared with their mother.
The woman, Nikiesha Warren, and her daughter were attacked in their sleep and the boy was attacked while playing a video game.
Nikiesha survived the beating and had to have extensive facial surgery and 16 plates in her head.
Scott apologized before he was sentenced Tuesday to consecutive life prison terms, plus 10 to 20 years for the attack on Wallace.
During the hearing, Channel 11 News reporter Rick Earle said one of the victims' family members shouted out to Scott and said, "You should have killed yourself." That person was led out of the courtroom by Allegheny County sheriff's deputies.
In exchange for the guilty plea, prosecutors withdrew a request for the death sentence.
After the hearing, Warren spoke to Channel 11 News.
"I talk to them daily. When I need help, I say, ‘I need your help guys. Please help me.' I talk to God, and I open up my arms and welcome everything that's coming down," she said. "They're going to give him death daily, I'm sure. I won't be the one perpetrating the hatred, but he'll get it and that's satisfying to me."
