Mom accused of sneaking into son's school, instigating fight appears in court

PITTSBURGH — A woman accused of sneaking into her son’s Pittsburgh middle school and instigating a fight between students appeared in court Monday morning.

Channel 11’s Dave Bondy was there as Yvonne McMeans left court.

Earlier this month, Manchester K-8’s principal said McMeans sneaked into the school before encouraging her son to engage in  a fistfight with another student.

Principal Theresa Cherry said McMeans then tried to coax another student to join the fight.

A teacher who was nearby attempted to hold that boy back so he couldn’t join in, and that’s when Cherry said McMeans “roughed up” the teacher.

The teacher was slightly injured in the altercation, Cherry said, but refused treatment and continued to teach.

McMeans faces aggravated assault and trespassing charges. A judge postponed McMeans’ preliminary hearing and another date has not yet been set.
