More than a dozen CMU students ill after eating at campus cafe

PITTSBURGH — Fifteen Carnegie Mellon University students have fallen ill with gastrointestinal distress, with 13 of those cases being directly linked to a campus café, according to an email sent to students and staff.

Thirteen of the 15 students purchased soup and/or sandwiches from La Prima Espresso in Wean Hall Monday and Tuesday, the email said.%

UHS is working with the Allegheny County Health Department to determine the cause of the illness.

Students experiencing symptoms of nausea, diarrhea, vomiting and fevers were told to contact University Health Services.

La Prima Espresso has removed certain food items from their menu as a precaution.

When reached for comment, a manger of La Prima Espresso told Channel 11 News to call back Thursday to speak with the owner.
