PITTSBURGH — Three people were hurt when gunfire erupted near a Homestead playground Sunday night.

Investigators said the shooting happened near the Charlie Batch playground on 16th Avenue.

Police said a 19-year-old man was shot in the leg and two other girls, ages 16 and 17, were grazed by bullets. All three victims are expected to survive.

Investigators said as many as 30 people may have been in the playground at the time of the shooting.

The mayor of Homestead, Betty Esper, said she's fed up with what has been going on in her community.

"The nation marched when one kid got shot in Florida. The nation marched! I got three kids shot in the street and I can't get anybody to come forward and say, 'I'm sick and tired of what's going on,'" Esper said.

Neighbors said the area near 16th Street has become a problem area.

"You know things are changing. We have to prevent things before it gets worse," Deborlyne Pamplin said.

Esper said she's willing to shut the park down at certain times if that's what it takes to keep people in the area safe.

"Safety is a big thing right now, and whatever I have to do safety wise, I'm going to do it," said Esper.

Judi Schienle said she saw the shooting from her window.

“Shots were going everywhere. The kid got hit in the leg,” Schienle said. “You can see where the bullet went into my car.”

Schienle said although her car got hit, she worried she would be hit as well.

“I’m always afraid of that. You don’t want to get caught in the middle of a war zone,” Schienle said.

According to officials, the shooting may have been a clash between two large groups of people who met with the intention of doing harm to each other.

Homestead police said the shooting had been talked about on social media websites.

It's unknown whether the shooting victims were the intended targets.

“This whole situation is getting out of hand,” Schienle said.

So far, no arrests have been made.
