Multiple water main breaks causing shortages in Avalon

AVALON, Pa. — Multiple water main breaks Saturday in Avalon have caused water shortages for residents of the borough, Allegheny County spokeswoman Amie Downs said.

A tweet from Allegheny County indicated that the breaks happened in the areas of Center Avenue and North Chestnut Street, Orchard Avenue and South Chestnut Street and Howden Street.

However, a post on the fire department's Facebook page stressed that the water is non-drinkable.

Channel 11 News was told that there were a total of seven breaks, forcing road closures and flooding one resident’s garage.

A water buffalo has been placed at the Avalon Volunteer Fire Department on New Brighton Road for impacted residents, Downs said.

Officials have not given a timetable for repairs, which are being made by crews from West View Water Authority.
