A pit bull rescued from a shelter in Texas will be in rare company upon completing K9 graduation school Friday.

Kiah (pronounced KY-uh) will be just one of a handful of pit bulls that serves in law enforcement throughout the entire country, according to News 10 in Albany, New York.

A Texas company that trains police dogs collaborated with two other animal welfare groups to get the dog trained and on the Poughkeepsie Police Department staff, the report said. Their goal was to show that not all are violent.

The dog's officer possesses the friendly, hardworking and energetic qualities necessary to make for a good K9 officer.
