ORLANDO, Fla. — Update 8:43 a.m. EDT June 4 Oct. 1: Police officers in Orlando have shot and killed a man who claimed to have a gun at a Florida hospital.
During a press conference Monday morning, officials with the Orlando Police Department said that the man, whose name they have not yet released pending notification of next of kin, indicated that he had a firearm and made movements consistent with reaching for a weapon.
The man claimed he would shoot anyone who would come near him, police said.
Police said the man had been taken to the hospital overnight and was at the facility for about an hour before making the claims.
He would not surrender to police, officials said.
Three officers opened fire after he made a movement to his waistband as if he was reaching for a weapon. He was killed in the process, police said.
