PITTSBURGH — Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf is offering his support as protests in Pittsburgh remain a possibility this weekend.

Saturday’s March on Google was canceled, but rumblings on social media suggest some activity could still take place.

Pittsburgh Police said they are actively monitoring social media to learn as much as possible to protect citizens and the city.

A spokesman for Mayor Bill Peduto confirmed no permits for protesting have been requested for this weekend.

During a stop today at the Pittsburgh Morrow School, Wolf said he will offer any support the city might need.

“Anything I can do to help the local officials I’ll be happy to do,” he said. “I think the best thing we can all do is remain steadfast in our opposition to the kind of racism, bigotry, and hatred those folks have espoused.”

Despite the city receiving no permit requests, Channel 11 has learned of one event that is scheduled for this weekend.

The Black Brilliance Collective is organizing a march Saturday in Homewood, and organizers said it will be peaceful – focusing on celebrating and protecting black communities.

“We wanted to make sure we handle making our communities safe,” said Daeja Baker, an organizer of the march. “The only way to do that is hear from the community about their concerns, and then to address it with them and alongside of them.”

The march will start Saturday outside of the YMCA building in Homewood.
