HARRISBURG, Pa. — PennDOT officials said highway and bridge construction projects started up again Friday after they were shut down by the coronavirus pandemic.

There will be a consideration of which projects will start up first based on:

  • location
  • ability to use social distancing
  • safety protocols at the site

Also, workers will be required to wear masks, there will be rules for job-site cleaning and there will be limits on who can enter a job site.

On March 17, PennDOT put a pause on all statewide construction projects except for emergency repairs.

“Our decision to pause construction was not made lightly, and we understand the importance of these projects to communities across Pennsylvania and to our industry partners,” said Acting PennDOT Secretary Yassmin Gramian. “Thanks to the swift, decisive actions of the administration and the cooperation of Pennsylvanians, the curve is starting to flatten, and we’re now in a position to restart these important improvements to the transportation network.”
