PITTSBURGH — Investigators said the incident began just before 4:30 p.m. when officers ran the plate of the car the boy was in and discovered it was stolen.
Officers said they attempted to pull the Chevrolet Malibu over near the intersection of Bedford Avenue and Somers Drive. When police turned their lights and sirens on, the driver took off, the criminal complaint stated.
Police said the driver of the car, during his attempts to flee police, struck several cars and caused at least one accident.
The responding officers began to chase the car, however, they had to call of the pursuit because it was too dangerous for pedestrians in the area.
Other officers on patrol spotted the Malibu on Devilliers Street, Centre Avenue, Dinwiddie Street, Fifth Avenue, Miltenberger Street, Watson Street (in the wrong direction), and Forbes Avenue.
The driver then got out of the car and tried running from officers near Fort Pitt Boulevard and Cherry Way. Police chased the teen down, where he continued to attempt to fight off police.
The Sheraden resident was eventually taken into custody, and taken to a nearby hospital to be treated after he was shocked with a stun gun.
The teen was then taken to Shuman Juvenile Detention Center and is facing several charges including receiving stolen property, fleeing a police officer, four counts of causing accidents involving damage to attended vehicles or property, resisting arrest and unlawful restraint.
A 20-year-old woman who was in the car with the teen was uninjured and was not charged.
