Pet Raccoon Owner Admits Getting Angry With Game Commission Officer

LAWRENCE COUNTY, Pa.,None — A Lawrence county woman is accused of attacking a game commissioner officer for trying to take her pet raccoon.

According to the criminal complaint, Kelly Kellerman struck a state game officer in the side of the head, and pushed the raccoon into his chest.

Kellerman admits to getting angry with the game commission officer, but said she never meant to hit him.

"I threw the raccoon at him and as I threw [the raccoon] at him my hand hit his baseball cap off his head. He said I slapped him and its assault."

The officer asked to confiscate the raccoon when Kellerman said she didn't have an "importation permit" after getting the animal two weeks ago at a flea market in Ohio.

"She's very angry. She feels she's being discriminated upon because she wasn't doing anything wrong. She's trying to raise an animal she got at a flea market," said neighbor Cody Beiter.

"It looked like a cute pet. I wanted to give it a try," said Kellerman. "I've been bottle feeding it and recently put it on eating regular food, cat food with milk."

Wildlife game commission officers said a raccoon can't be brought into the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for individual possession.

Kellerman said she gave the raccoon away but "wasn't very happy about it."
