PITTSBURGH — This year, there will be a lot of changes at PNC Park. Perhaps none will be more impactful for the fan experience than the installation of new metal detectors. These new detectors will replace the old metal detecting wand system that preceded it at park events.

Starting this year, the Pittsburgh Pirates will install 44 new walk-through metal detectors that will be used at all home games.

“For the 2015 season, we feel it’s more efficient and quicker for our guests to install the walk-through metal detectors here at PNC Park,” said Jeff Podobnik, Senior Director of Security for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Unlike metal detectors in year’s past, these new metal detectors won’t require you to take small items like change out of your pocket. A general rule of thumb is for guests to remove anything larger than a mobile phone. Guests will be asked to remove cell phones, cameras, tablets, laptops and other large metal objects. When approaching the walk-through metal detectors, guests will be asked to slide these items in an extended tray that will be fixed alongside each individual machine in close proximity and in clear sight.

All other standard PNC Park gate procedures remain unchanged for the 2015 season.
